Blackjack payout

blackjack handThe usual payout offered to a player if he is dealt blackjack is in the ratio 3:2. Some casinos only offer the much less favorable 6:5 or 1:1 ratio. 4.8% of all games results in blackjack so this altered payout increased the advantage to the house considerably – more than any other rule. The 6:5 rules are most often used on single-deck, table blackjack games which limit the advantage normally enjoyed by the player in such games, returning an advantage to the house of 1.4%. The 1:1 ratio returns a house advantage of 2.3% is most often seen in video blackjack and explains why this format has never reached the popularity of table blackjack.

Tip: "Dealer wins ties" rule:
This rule is catastrophic to the player, though rarely used in standard Blackjack. It is sometimes seen in "blackjack-like" games.

Tip: "Six card charlie" rule:
With this rule, the player wins if six cards have been drawn without busting. It may or may not win if the dealer has a Blackjack. This rule adds about 0.16% to the player edge if an altered strategy is used. The advantage is less with normal Basic Strategy.
